FAUXCON
victoria's only regional convention

What is FauxCon?

FauxCon is primarily a co-production of the Impotent Images Roleplaying Club (Geelong), BURP (Ballarat Uni Role Players), and the Science Fiction & Games Association of Moe. A number of other individuals, both Metropolitan and Regional, participate to varying degrees. FauxCon has been running since 1999, and aims to compliment Victoria's larger gaming cons by providing cheaper, less carcinogenic games in a smaller, friendly environment. FauxCon hopes to encourage new and regional Game Masters and players to experience gaming in a convention environment for our special low, low price.

FauxCon is a weekend's worth of gaming - we aim to present events that appeal to anyone that likes to play games, whether boardgames, wargames, tabletop roleplaying, Live Action or freeforming events.

FauxCon changes venue every year or two, picking a new location somewhere in regional Victoria - unlike other conventions which remain at their preferred venue for as long as they can - in order to give country Victorians a chance to attend the sort of games convention that might normally only be available in Melbourne. It also gives the established gamers who can't take time away from their normal lives a chance to showcase their gaming talents to Melbournians who take the time to travel out to FauxCon.

BilbyRoger the Bilby

Roger the Bilby is FauxCon's special mascot. He made a guest appearance at the first FauxCon, at which he had attendees enchanted with his antics and thus he was made the subject of several of FauxCon II's scenarios.

Sadly, Roger passed away during December 1999, having lost a disagreement with a semi-trailer on the Calder Highway outside of Wood End. What little remained intact was donated to the Biology Department of Latrobe University Bendigo for use in scientific purposes. But his fond memory goes on in the form of FauxCon t-shirts, of which $2 from each sale is to be donated to the Australian Bilby Appreciation Society.

Administration

FauxCon is run by Stochastic Inc., a non-profit incorporated organisation. All time, effort, blood, sweat, and other gross bodily fluids are voluntarily donated.

All the FauxCon organisers are volunteers - people who 9 days before the Convention put up their hands and committed themselves to doing whatever it takes to try and get the negatives back. Because of the con's regional focus, we have endeavourd to retain the services of representatives from different regions around Victoria.
